incredible video 🙌8:46 damn his rhythm/time is so solid, I think he gets that by playing to metronomes, but then also slowing the time down a lot to get better at judging the milliseconds between each note at a slower pace - 75% is great, 50% is better, that's hard practise right there - you can see this for yourself when using youtube video settings to change speed to 75% - hear how even Nile's playing is? it sounds almost robotic, so tight👌
The triad shapes were an essential part of learning guitar, especially if you enjoyed the Hendrix/SRV/Mayer sound. Although it was great to learn bar chords at the time, it was just a big picture technique. The smaller triads and 4 string voicings accented the 7th,. and other notes that gave certain chords that bite especially in rhythm playing.
7:42 "Almost like a country 6th chord..." Then he plays the chord riff reference from Chuck Berry's, "Memphis, Tennessee!" Nile Rogers is simply AWESOME!
I’m back. When I’m feeling my playing is in a rut I watch this GEM 💎 of information to get me back on track ! Oh I play hard rock and heavy metal 🎸 put some distortion on his riffs MMMMMMMM VERY METAL 🤘🏾🤘🏾
Nile's playing is awesome and it's great that he's putting this stuff out. However, I've never yet managed to find a video of Bernard Edwards playing in a teaching mode. If anyone has any links, please post them.
1. He say less mean more funky, so he play less. 2. He then say that less don't sound funky, so he play more. 3. He then contradict again by saying more is less. Nile fibs a lot and I totally forgive him. Except for the Darwin stuff which isn't his fault he just didn't get informed.
I remember when you told the story how they would Not let you In to S-54, Yet Everyone was Dancing & Grooving to YOUR MUSIC. OUCH.(I had a friend who knew one of the Owners and we could go & Get-In Any-Hour, Any-Time, without waiting in that Line, that Crush) And people would Spit on us: "Hey, who the F R U to Just Walk Up and Get In, We've Been Here for Three Hours". Those Were the Daze. Plus 'Who-Ya-Know' Right???
👍👍👍
Such an underrrated guitarist , he makes the song come alive
Over the years I've watched this video like 20+ times, but only now I've discovered 8:58. What was that?! How many notes was that?! Amazing!
He says nothing about his picking style lol
The amazing Nile Rodgers breaks it right down for us! Are we lucky or what?!!
A little goes a long way. Prince was a Master at this technique too. He could make 2 strings sound like 5 strings.
As a former professional drummer I really miss good funk!
Nile is Genius. Fantastic video. Thank You !!
Great advice here, learning from the goat of funky rhythm guitar!
He mentions George van Eps. Cool!
Amazing breaking it down having the confidence of knowing he is the master of the technique but he shares it with us. Nile thanks for the lesson .
Thomas Hit Murray... and Nile two of the greatest uptown guitar players ever... VISION ⚠️
this guy is addicted to barr chords

Nile is responsible for my left-hand "pinky" developing so it has a mind of it's own, it plays the melodies all by itself now, thanks Mr R!!

I see what he's saying. Less is definitely more. Too many chords and the music sounds heavy. You want it to be light and still maintain 💯.
When u r MASTER u just Are 🙌
